The grape varieties that compose it are 80% Grenache, 8% Syrah, 7% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault; the vines grow on soils made up of siliceous pebbles mixed with red clay, with some areas predominantly limestone. The grapes are destemmed, fermented, and macerated for about 20 days with constant pumping over and punching down, then the wine ages for a year in French oak barrels.
The Châteauneuf du Pape Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Rouge di Maison OgierChâteauneuf du Pape Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Rouge appears in the glass in a deep ruby red. The nose is focused on fresh and macerated red and black fruit, in particular blackberry and raspberry, enveloped in a smoky spiciness and exotic hints. The palate impresses with intricate tannins and powerful minerality, evident density, and balancing freshness: Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Rouge pairs divinely with dishes of significant structure and spiciness, such as a roast of Sienese pork with its own gravy, mustard, and wild blueberries.
