"Mastrojanni's Rosso di Montalcino comes from the southeastern portion of the vineyard, itself part of the larger estate that also has olive groves, farm land, and forested woods and which varies in altitude from 180 to 420 meters above sea level. These vines have a largely southern/southeastern exposition; a few of them face southwest. Each section of the vineyard has distinct geological differences; the soil in the vineyards to the southeast has more clay and tuff with sandstone inserts, while the south- and southwest-facing vineyards have a pebbly soil. The grapes are fermented in barrels made of either glazed concrete or brushed concrete. The goal is to have greater control over the vinification process, maintaining lower and steadier fermentation temperatures, and optimising the accurate extraction of colour, tannins and structure, based on the shape of the tanks. The wine is aged in 54 hl Allier oak barrels for 6-7 months and is bottled-aged in our cellars for an additional 3 months.
Mastrojanni's Rosso di Montalcino has an intense, brilliant ruby red color; the nose is rich and ample and is dominated by strong notes of ripe red fruits and hints of balsamic and spice. The mouthfeel is generous and enveloping, with dense, compact tannins that lead to a pleasant, persistent finish marked by notes of fragrant fruit. Excellent with steak and other red meats."
