Corpo medioSP68 Bianco by Arianna Occhipinti is a wine that has not been slow to make itself known and appreciated. It takes its name from the ancient road that already three thousand years ago connected Gela to Kamarina, travelled since that time by peasants with amphorae and barrels that went from the countryside under the Iblei to sell the fruit of their labour. The very particular blend is made up of Moscato d'Alessandria at 60% and Albanello (an ancient Syracusan grape) at 40%. The grapes come from 20-year-old vineyards at almost 300 metres above sea level on medium-consistency soils deriving from calcareous sands; the plants do not undergo any chemical treatment and are healthy and ready to be harvested at the end of September. Fermentation takes place strictly with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats and maceration with the skins lasts for more or less 15 days; the wine then ages in the same concrete containers for at least 6 months, and for another month in the bottle, without ever undergoing any filtration.
SP68 Bianco di Arianna Occhipinti has an intense straw yellow colour. On the nose, Moscato is the master with an interesting island variation: fresh grapes, pickled olives, Mediterranean scrub, broom, fresh cedar peel. In the mouth, it is salty and fresh, with a good structure and balsamic-citrusy length. Definitely interesting wine, it is very good as a snack with sage and fried anchovies, as at dinner, for example with a fragrant paperbag of monkfish and vegetables.
