Taurasi di Feudi di San Gregorio is obtained from Aglianico grapes grown on volcanic soils at an altitude between 350 and 700 metres above sea level. The fermentation process with maceration took place for about 21 days in steel tanks. Ageing took place for 18 months in French oak barriques followed by a further 9 months in the bottle. DOCG Taurasi was established in 1993 and embraces 17 municipalities in the province of Avellino. The main grape is Aglianico which, according to the disciplinary, must be used for at least 85%. The remaining percentage can be reserved for other black grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the province of Avellino.
The Taurasi by Feudi di San Gregorio is presented in the glass with a ruby red colour with garnet reflections. On the nose, it releases intense aromas of sour cherry and ripe red fruit combined with hints of anise, sweet spices and liquorice root. The sip is soft and balanced, supported by velvety tannins and a delicate fresh-savoury trail that persists in the long finish played on fruity and spicy notes. At the table, it goes well with aged cheeses or structured courses based on red meats or game.
