Tiefenbrunner's Pinot Grigio Merus is part of the Classic Merus line: the Latin term merus (pure) refers to the frank expression of the grape's character. The grapes, which come from vineyards in the Bassa Atesina, are vinified in concrete or steel vats. The wines thus obtained are bottled young and fresh. Pinot Grigio, in particular, is produced with grapes from the vineyards in the hills of Cortaccia (400-600 m asl) and in the plains of Magrè (210 m asl), on soils composed of calcareous gravel of morainic sediments in Cortaccia and soils alluvial sand in Magrè. The fermentation of the two batches is carried out separately, at a controlled temperature, in concrete vats for 10 days, then the wine is blended and aged for 4 months on fine lees.
Tiefenbrunner's Pinot Grigio Merus is an intense straw yellow. The nose has notes concentrated on the fruit with pear, apple, grapefruit and plum; in the background, there is a slight reference to wildflowers and herbs. In the mouth, it is balanced, taut and thirst-quenching. The combination with Panicia, the traditional Val Badia barley soup, is interesting.
