Fine Wine fine wineThe 3-litre Double Magnum presents Ornellaia 2023 in a format conceived for important occasions and fine-wine collections. The vintage, interpreted by the estate through the theme “La Vitalità”, combines concentration, energy and precision in a Bolgheri DOC Superiore shaped by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
A mild winter and a rainy spring were followed by a warm summer without extreme heat peaks. Rainfall helped limit water stress, while late-August rains and cool September nights encouraged gradual ripening and preserved acidity and aromatic complexity. The resulting wine brings richness and drive together without sacrificing finesse.
The grapes were harvested by hand in 15 kg crates and underwent double selection, before and after destemming, followed by gentle crushing. Each grape variety and vineyard parcel was vinified separately. Fermentation took place in stainless steel and concrete at 26–30 °C for about one week, followed by around 15 days of maceration.
Malolactic fermentation took place mainly in oak barriques, 70% new and 30% second-use. The wine aged for about 18 months in barriques: after the first 12 months the final blend was assembled, followed by another 6 months in wood. A further 12 months of bottle ageing precedes release.
The colour is deep, vivid ruby red. Ripe blueberry, blackberry and other black-fruit aromas are joined by toasted almond, cocoa and Mediterranean scrub notes. The palate is broad and concentrated yet plush and precise, with silky, chiselled tannins and a very long, persistent finish.
The 3-litre Double Magnum heightens the collectible character of Ornellaia 2023 without changing the identity of the wine: it is the estate's Bolgheri DOC Superiore in a rare, imposing format, consistent with the Fine Wine positioning already given to previous Ornellaia vintages on Etilika.
