Ninos Marani Tsolikouri Qvevri 2024 comes from Imereti in western Georgia and introduces a white-wine tradition distinct from Kakheti's. Made from the indigenous Tsolikouri grape, it is fermented and aged in traditional clay qvevri.

Tsolikouri from western Imereti

Also spelt Tsolikauri, this white grape is closely associated with western Georgia. Ninos Marani is based around Baghdati, where the vineyards associated with its Tsolikouri grow at 300–550 metres on alluvial, sandy-loam soils containing sand and silt.

Fermentation in qvevri

The grapes are selected by hand before the wine is fermented and aged in qvevri, Georgia's traditional clay vessels. Earthenware is central to the production of this dry white wine; the use of qvevri does not, on its own, make it an Orange Wine.

A Georgian white to explore

A good choice for discovering Imereti white wines, exploring Tsolikouri and comparing clay-vessel winemaking with other methods. This is the 2024 vintage, offered in a 750 ml bottle.
