Aroma fruttato
Corpo medioThe IGT Contessa di Radda di Geografico is the new arrival from the historic Chianti company: 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot from vineyards cultivated between Radda and Castellina in Chianti. The grapes are vinified in steel and then the wine refines in barrels (30% new) for about 12 months. The name and label are a dedication to Countess Willa of Tuscany, mother of the famous Marquess Ugo of Tuscany, mentioned by Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy as the "Great Baron." The Countess, founder of Florence's oldest Benedictine monastery, the Abbey of Santa Maria, better known as Badia Fiorentina, was an active part of the history of Radda, Florence, and the Chianti area in general.
The IGT Contessa di Radda di Geografico is deep ruby red; on the nose, the fruit dominates, with intense notes of blueberry, grape juice, blackberry jam, enriched by violet, licorice balsam, black pepper, and tobacco. On the palate, it has a beautiful structure, defined tannins, and a finish of medicinal herbs. Interesting pairing with casagne flour, for example in the polenta version with bacon, sausage, and rosemary.
