Corpo robustoThe Etna Rosso San Lorenzo di Tenuta delle Terre Nere is mainly obtained from Nerello Mascalese grapes with the addition of a small percentage of Nerello Cappuccio. The original vineyard, with vines over 70 years old, is located in the homonymous district of the municipality of Randazzo (CT), at an altitude between 700 and 750 meters above sea level. Contrada San Lorenzo can indeed be considered a true grand cru. It hosts one of the rare Etna plots characterized by the so-called elliptical soil, the oldest surface layer where it is possible to plant, composed almost exclusively of volcanic sands. During the vinification of this splendid example of Etna Rosso, the alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature of 28-30°C. After spontaneous malolactic fermentation, the aging was 16-18 months in barriques, tonneaux, and large casks, with 20% new, and 1 month in stainless steel.
The Etna Rosso San Lorenzo di Tenuta delle Terre Nere presents itself in the glass with a ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it releases aromas of ripe red fruits and hints of balsamic herbs that meet earthy notes and oriental spices. Completing the olfactory profile are smoky hints and red orange zest. The taste is intense and structured, finished with silky tannins and a long finish of dark spices. At the table, it pairs well with aged cheeses as well as elaborated dishes based on red meats or game.
