Corpo robustoThe Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli di Mazzei was born in 1995, anticipating the concept of the Gran Selezione, introduced in 2014 for wines released from that moment on. Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the territories of 3 neighbouring municipalities of the Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. 2012 is the result of long research, more than 300 metres of altitude gradient, 120 parcels, 36 Sangiovese biotypes of which 18 are exclusive, 120 distinct vinifications and refinements, the assembly of 50 wines from the best plots. The grapes, 92% Sangiovese, 8% Malvasia Nera and Colorino, fermented at a controlled temperature, then the wine matured 20 months in small French oak barrels of 225 and 500 litres (new at 60%), to remain still for a long time in the bottle.
The Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli of the Marchesi Mazzei has a ruby red colour with garnet hues. The nose is fragrant, with a lot of carnation and rose blossom, and even more fruit, with blackberry compote, prunes and pomegranate echoes, followed by notes of musk, catmint, pepper and tobacco. In the mouth, it has citrus freshness, smooth tannin and perfectly integrated alcohol. Excellent with roasted Cinta Senese suckling pig.
