Corpo medioAlois Lageder's Chardonnay Löwengang is the now-legendary wine, one of the best expressions of this grape variety in Italy. The company's symbolic wine, it has been produced since 1984 and has marked its history and growing success. There was a wave of sensation in Alto Adige, when the Alois Lageder Estate, in the mid-1980s, for the first time vinified Chardonnay in barriques; but it soon dispelled the doubts of most, becoming the first South Tyrolean white wine to enter the ranks of the most popular whites on international markets. The grapes are those of the best plots of the Löwengang Estate in Magrè on very calcareous soils of sand and gravel. The grapes ferment spontaneously in barriques and large barrels, then remain in contact with the fine lees for the time necessary according to the vintage, to further refine a year in the bottle.
Alois Lageder's Chardonnay Löwengang is a clear and brilliant golden yellow. The nose is broad, alternating notes of pear, apricot, peach, salted butter with herbs, chamomile in bloom, light hazelnut, mentholated balms and smoky mineral trails. The mouth is wide, with each component in balance and great aromatic returns. Very good with farmyard meats, for example with roasted stuffed rabbit.
