The Barolo DOCG 2018 Conteisa by Gaja is an iconic wine that represents the viticultural excellence of the Langhe. Produced by one of Italy's most renowned winemakers, Angelo Gaja, this Barolo is the result of a meticulous selection of Nebbiolo grapes from the prestigious Cerequio vineyard, located between the towns of La Morra and Barolo. "Conteisa" comes from the Piedmontese term meaning "dispute," referring to an old territorial conflict between these two towns. The year 2018 was characterized by favorable climatic conditions, with a cold and rainy winter followed by a warm but balanced summer, allowing for optimal grape maturation. The vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by long aging in oak barrels, which gives the wine an aromatic complexity and an elegant tannic structure.
The Barolo Conteisa 2018 shows an intense garnet red color, typical of great Nebbiolo wines. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet of ripe red fruit aromas, such as cherries and raspberries, accompanied by floral notes of rose and violet, and earthy nuances of underbrush and tobacco. On the palate, it is a structured wine, with silky and well-integrated tannins that give it a pleasant roundness. The finish is long and persistent, with a sweet spice and licorice aftertaste that invites another sip. This wine fully expresses the greatness of the territory and Gaja's craftsmanship. Perfect to pair with meat dishes, game, or aged cheeses, it also lends itself to long aging in the cellar.
