Corpo medioThe Barbera d'Asti Maridà di Cantine Povero is named after a girl from popular tradition "elegant and intelligent. When she walked through the village, she seemed like a city woman. Everyone was enchanted by her charm. So beautiful that she never found a husband." The vineyards from which this Barbera originates are on sandy and clayey limestone soils. The company owns 50 hectares in that part of Piedmont where Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato meet, and cultivates 7 native varieties, each in its own area of primary vocation. The hand-picked Barbera grapes are vinified in thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks; in the same tanks, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and aging.
The Barbera d'Asti Maridà di Cantine Povero is ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, it expresses itself with impact with incense, spices, and licorice, then emerging notes of wild strawberries, cherries in compote, roses, and mint. In the mouth, it is tense, fresh, and pleasant. A very versatile wine, it is excellent with cardoons and bagna cauda, as well as with veal stew with peas and potatoes, and again, with mixed boiled meats.
