Umberta di Iuli is a Barbera, a grape variety that is absolutely "feminine" for the company, dedicated to a dear friend. We are in Cerrina Monferrato, at 250 meters altitude and facing south; the vineyards, planted partly in the forties, partly in the late nineties, sink their roots into loose, calcareous-clay soils. The plants, with very low yields, are harvested at the beginning of October. The grapes ferment spontaneously in concrete, with a maceration of about 20 days; the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in concrete as well, then it ages for 10-11 months before being bottled without any clarifications or filtrations.

UMBERTA IULI: TASTING

Umberta di Iuli is presented with an intense ruby color with violet shades. On the nose, it offers a rich and dark fruit of blackberry, enriched by floral notes of violet, spicy hints of black pepper, and balsamic herbaceous notes of mint, in an aromatic profile that is primarily vinous. In the mouth, it is full, wide, fresh, and with a great immediacy in drinking, despite the generous alcohol content. Perfect wine for a snack with traditional Piedmontese cold cuts and cheeses, but also for mixed boiled meats.
