The Vecchio Samperi di Marco De Bartoli is a legendary wine that has shaken up and revived the fate of Marsala wine. At Baglio "Vecchio Samperi di Marco De BartoliVecchio Samperi," owned by the family for over two centuries, where the plants are rooted in a dry, calcareous soil rich in minerals, Marco marked the beginning of a new journey: the return to the origins of Marsala. Starting from 1980, he revives the pre-British tradition of Marsala, the "wine of Marsala" and not the fortified Marsala. For the production of Vecchio Samperi di Marco De BartoliVecchio Samperi, a system of "racking" of small percentages of newly produced wine into barrels containing aged wines is used, allowing for the creation of a harmonious blend of different vintages, with a unique and inimitable taste. The ancient method of wine aging in oak barrels, known as the perpetual method or Soleras, is then ennobled. The 100% Grillo grapes are carefully hand-selected, gently pressed, naturally settled, and traditionally fermented, with indigenous yeasts, in oak and chestnut casks at room temperature. The aging process then continues for at least 15 years, following the perpetual method.

VECCHIO SAMPERI MARCO DE BARTOLI: THE TASTING

The Vecchio Samperi di Marco De Bartoli presents itself in a fascinating amber hue. On the nose, it is intense, austere, and elegant, with a captivating alternation of freshness and oxidation notes: dehydrated apricot, eucalyptus and mint balms, quince, thyme and oregano, acacia honey and dried figs, camphor hints. The palate is powerful, with overwhelming acidity and distinct savoriness. A unique and epiphanic wine. To be tasted strictly on its own, then try it with tonnarelli alla bottarga.
