Aroma fruttato
Corpo medioThe Rosso di Montalcino Poggio di Sotto di Colle Massari was obtained from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in the area of Castelnuovo dell'Abate (SI), south-east of Montalcino, at an altitude between 200 and 400 metres above sea level. The company vineyards here extend for 16 hectares and insist on soils rich in marl (friable rock that flakes off in the water releases elements useful for plants) and clays. The fermentation took place spontaneously in wooden barrels, while the refinement took place in oak barrels of 30 hectoliters for 24 months. Before being marketed, the wine rested for a further 6 months in the bottle. Colle Massari stands out for its minimally invasive approach in the vineyard and in the cellar, for this reason, for example, the wine has not been subjected to filtration.
The Rosso di Montalcino Poggio di Sotto di Colle Massari shows a clear ruby red colour. Intense aromas of cherry and small ripe red fruits emerge on the nose combined with hints of potpourri and balsamic herbs. The sip is soft and delicately fruity, supported by a smooth tannic texture and a gentle sapidity that persists with a long finish played on ethereal and spicy notes. At the table, it goes well with aged cheeses and land dishes based on red meat and game.
