Franz Haas' Pinot Nero Schweizer was the first wine of the company to be "dressed" by the Trentino artist Riccardo Schweizer in the late 1980s. The plants intended for this selection grow in areas carefully chosen for their microclimate. Individual vineyards are located at altitudes ranging between 350 and 700 metres and include a great diversity of soils (loamy, sandy, calcareous and gravelly soils). The high-density plants and the use of selected low yield clones ensure the highest quality of the grapes. The vinification takes place in open vats in which the fermenting must comes into contact with the skins through frequent pumping over and punching down. At the end of fermentation, the wine passes into barriques in which malolactic fermentation takes place and subsequently maturation for a period of 12 months; a further year in the bottle follows.
The Pinot Nero label Schweizer by Franz Haas shows a ruby red that varies from soft to intense depending on the vintage. Its bouquet seduces with ripe berries and cherries, dried plum, raspberry and strawberry jam, spicy notes of pepper, cinnamon, tobacco, tea and leather, all embraced by balsamic and woody references. The mouth is elegant, with dense tannins, beautiful flavour and a balsamic finish. Very good with jugged hare!
