With Kristallberg, Elena Walch turns to higher elevations to bring out Pinot Bianco’s precision and mineral character. This Alto Adige white is made from 100% Pinot Bianco grown on elevated vineyard sites between Tramin and Kaltern, at around 600 metres, including a sunny, porphyry-rich mountain terrace.

A mountain-grown wine shaped by the 2023 vintage

A warm, dry early summer gave way to August rainfall and a favourable autumn ripening period. The wine offers fresh pear and white-fleshed fruit, with hints of green walnut, mineral nuances and a subtle smoky touch. Its juicy freshness, savoury character and vibrant acidity are matched by an elegant structure.

Twelve months in large wooden casks

Hand-harvested grapes are gently pressed and the must is statically clarified before fermentation in 25-hectolitre wooden casks. The wine then matures in these vessels for 12 months, with prolonged contact with the lees, gaining texture while retaining energy.

Food and serving

Serve at 13–15°C with poultry, white meats or fresh cheeses. The winery suggests an ageing potential of 3–8 years. The 2023 vintage earned 94/100 from James Suckling and 92/100 from Falstaff.
