The Passito di Pantelleria Ben Rye  di Donnafugata Passito di Pantelleria Ben Rye  from Donnafugata is produced from 100% sun-dried zibibbo grapes (or muscat of Alexandria) grown at altitudes ranging from 20 to 400 meters above sea level, on sandy volcanic soils arranged in terraces. The vines here are cultivated inside stone-walled hollows following the ancient Pantelleria bush vine system, a practice inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its creativity and sustainability. A particularity lies in the fermenting must to which hand-picked dried grapes are added to enhance the aromatics. Aging took place for 7 months in stainless steel tanks and 12 months in the bottle. The name Ben Rye comes from the Arabic, translating to "son of the wind," as wind is a defining element of the island of Pantelleria.
