Ograde di Škerk is a particular blend in similar proportions of Malvasia, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, and Vitovska. We are on the Karst plateau, at an altitude of 250 meters; the approximately 7 total hectares of vineyard located in rugged and difficult to work areas are divided among traditional grape varieties (Vitovska, Malvasia, and Terrano) and some international ones (Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon), and delve into a poor soil, consisting of iron-rich red earth and stones of limestone rock. The climate, on the other hand, is mild, with a significant influence of the sea; we are just a few kilometers as the crow flies from the Gulf of Trieste, the northernmost point where the Mediterranean Sea reaches. The grapes, harvested slightly late, ferment spontaneously in wooden barrels and macerate for about 15 days on the skins, then the wine ages for 24 months always in oak barrels. No clarification or filtration is carried out before bottling. As in the vineyard, the approach in the cellar is sustainable and avoids the use of chemicals; the microclimatic conditions of the environments, the cellar being excavated in rock, ensure the correct temperature and humidity.

OGRADE ŠKERK: TASTING

Ograde di Škerk has a golden pink color. The olfactory beginning is of candied citrus, followed by dehydrated apricot, salted caramel, peach juice, chestnut honey, lychee, pine resin, jasmine and rose water, herbs from the Mediterranean scrub, and the sea. The mouth is vital, fresh, salty, with a slight roughness that recalls its place of origin. A wine for white meat, it pairs deliciously with herb rabbit.
