Aroma fruttato
Fine WineEmidio Pepe's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is one of those wines that arouse reverence even just by naming them. And if you happen to come face to face with some of the family members, you will be paralysed by the vibrant blue of their eyes, and you can only compare it to the mystical power of their wines. We are in Torano Nuovo, in the north of Abruzzo, a strip of land nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso, on clayey soils, with a lot of sunshine, a great day-night temperature range and a lot of wind, which keeps the plants healthy. Both in the vineyard and in the cellar, only natural products are used such as copper crystals, sulfur and biodynamic preparations. The wine is always vinified in concrete with refinements without the use of wooden barrels and bottling without any filtration.
The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo by Emidio Pepe has a deep ruby red; on the nose, it is an accord of red fruit, aromatic herbs and youthful vinosity. In the mouth, it has great minerality, a certain tannic tension, fruit and persistence. After having it, I recommend, tasted and listened carefully, "in solitude", it is pleasant to accompany it with pizza with sizzles (focaccia with crispy flakes of fat and connective tissues), or with garlic bruschetta from Sulmona; but also good to drink with more structured dishes such as Amatriciana or Arrosticini.
