Corpo robustoMasseto 1993 – Masseto belongs to the historic vintages of one of Tuscany’s most sought-after collectable wines. It is produced in Bolgheri from Merlot grown in the estate’s namesake vineyard, a distinctive site marked by blue clay soils that retain moisture and contribute depth, structure and remarkable expressive intensity. The name Masseto itself refers to the hard blocks of clay, locally known as “massi”, that form on the surface of the vineyard.
The 1993 growing season was warm and dry, producing a Masseto that combined richness with impressive harmony. Bottle ageing has developed a complex aromatic profile in which dark fruit and cherry are joined by notes of leather, tobacco, smoke, spice, chocolate and subtle balsamic nuances. The palate retains depth and character, with a velvety texture, evolved tannins and a balanced structure leading to a long, layered finish.
This is a wine for thoughtful tasting, an important private collection or a particularly meaningful occasion. It pairs beautifully with braised beef, roast meats, game, beef fillet, lamb, truffle-based dishes and mature cheeses. Store the bottle horizontally, protected from light and temperature fluctuations, then stand it upright before opening to allow any sediment to settle. Serve at approximately 16-18 °C, assessing decanting carefully according to the condition of the individual bottle.
