Corpo robustoThe Giulio Cesare Mamertino Rosso di Cambria is 60% Nero d'Avola and 40% Nocera. Mamertino is an ancient wine, already appreciated in Roman times, it is said that Julius Caesar obeyed it offered at the victory banquet for the third consulate; the doc was established in 2004 for various wines produced in the province of Messina. We are in Furnari, 160 metres above sea level, with a view of the Aeolian islands; the grapes are harvested in mid-September and macerated for 24 hours at a low temperature before acclimatisation and then the start of alcoholic fermentation. At the end of the process, the mass is gently pressed and the wine is then aged in French oak barrels of various capacities between 225 and 3,000 litres for about 14 months; once in the bottle, we wait a further 6 months before being released on the market.
The Giulio Cesare Mamertino Rosso di Cambria is limpid and bright ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose opens with enveloping notes of raspberry, blackberry, cherry in alcohol and plum jam, then it is enriched with hints of vanilla, cocoa, medicinal herbs, leather and tobacco. On the palate, it is warm and soft, balanced by beautiful freshness and fine tannins. Very interesting the combination with the Greek Moussaka of eggplant and meat.
