The Lessona Pidrin di Pietro Cassina is born in the Tenuta Cascina Chignalungo (Lessona Municipality), from vineyards facing from southeast to southwest at an altitude of 290 meters. The soils here are of fluvio-glacial origin, gravelly-sandy, coarse, and rich in minerals such as iron and manganese, a characteristic that outlines those mineral traits characteristic of the wines from the Lessona area. The grapes are harvested with careful hand selection, then subjected to a second sorting on a vibrating table. After destemming and soft pressing, the must flows by gravity into temperature-controlled steel tanks; fermentation starts spontaneously, and maceration on the skins lasts for 7-10 days without ever exceeding 28°C, with daily punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine then matures in oval barrels with a capacity of 15 and 25 hectoliters, made of Swiss oak, for about 15 months, and further aging in the bottle until reaching balance. The Cassina family has been working for years on an ambitious project: to produce barrels from woods collected and matured within the company's boundaries. It will take a long time and significant energies from every point of view, but this small winery has great and consistent ambitions.

LESSONA PIDRIN CASSINA: TASTING

The Lessona Pidrin di Pietro Cassina has a bright garnet color. On the nose, it has ancient floral notes, primarily of wild violet, but also dried rose petals, then tones of fruit, spices, balsamic, and mineral, with hints of strawberry jam and vanilla, china, licorice, dry leaves, and rust. The sip is defined by elegant tannins, freshness, and a blood-like savoriness. Open in advance, then pair with pigeon risotto and black truffle.
