Corpo medioBenanti Etna Rosso Contrada Monte Serra originates from a vineyard in Contrada Monte Serra, on the southeast side of Mount Etna, in the territory of Viagrande (Catania) at 450-500 meters above sea level. The vineyard has southeast exposure, and sandy, volcanic soil that is rich in minerals and “ripiddu” (small pumice stones). The grapes are 100% Nerello Mascalese, harvested from vines of varying age, some more than a century old, and cultivated with the traditional ""alberello"" method. The climate is less extreme than other districts, humid and with good rainfall in the coldest season, and subject to high winds from the sea. The harvest takes place in late September or early October; fermentation takes place in temperature controlled steel tanks with a 21-day maceration period using indigenous yeasts. The wine ages in French oak tonneaux for 12 months and then in steel before being bottled, where it ages for a further 10 months.
Benanti Etna Rosso Contrada Monte Serra has a ruby red color with subtle garnet hues. The nose is slightly ethereal and broad, with notes of cinnamon, mace, blackberry jam, dried violet, forest floor, wet grass, Mediterranean scrub, and burnt tobacco. In the mouth it is ample, with an alcoholic generosity balanced by freshness and tannins and with a long mineral and balsamic persistence. Very interesting paired with dishes of exotic cuisine, for example with lamb kebab.
