It comes from old vines, including some over one hundred years of age, grown on soils of volcanic ash and sand at altitudes ranging from 820 to 1000 metres above sea level, in the contrade of Barbabecchi, Carrana, and Monte Dolce. The vineyard is farmed under certified organic practices.
Vinification is carried out with spontaneous fermentations and indigenous yeasts, following a low-intervention approach. The wine is then aged for nineteen months in oak barrels, ceramic vessels, and glass containers, allowing it to evolve while preserving its expressive purity and territorial identity. The wine is unfined and unfiltered, has low sulphite levels of around 25 mg/L, is suitable for vegans and vegetarians, and is produced in a total of 3100 bottles. Alcohol content is 13.5%, with residual sugar below 1 g/L.
980 metri shows a deep and layered aromatic profile, with notes of black plums and cherries, followed by hints of green mint and thyme, leading into nuances of wild mushrooms. On the palate, the wine is fresh, with soft tannins; the gentle warming sensation is well balanced and carries a savoury flow marked by orange peel, cherries, green mint, and a mineral finish. It is a wine full of fruit, with an agile structure and the clear mineral identity that this altitude is able to express. At the table, it pairs beautifully with mallard duck with red onion.
