The Pinot Nero Barthenau Vigna S. Urbano di Hofstätter is born from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Barthenau estate located in the municipality of Mazzone, in the province of Bolzano. The originating cru, named Vigna S. Urbano, consists of 65-year-old vines rooted in clayey and gravelly soils, rich in limestone and porphyry. After the harvest, the clusters were transported to the cellar and subjected to a slight pressing. 25% was fermented in barrels without destemming. The remaining 75% fermented for 10 days at controlled temperature. After separate maturation for 14 months in small oak barrels, the blending took place. Before being commercialized, the Alto Adige DOC Barthenau Vigna S. Urbano Pinot Noir by Hofstätter aged for 7 months in large oak barrels and a further 12 months in the bottle.

On the nose, it expresses aromas of sour cherries, raspberries, and small red fruits intertwined with hints of vanilla and subtle notes of dark and toasted spices. The palate is elegant and balanced, supported by smooth tannins and an intense fruity and spicy taste that lingers in the long finish. It pairs well with aged cheeses as well as flavorful dishes of red meats or game.
