Some Barolos aim for immediate impact; others reveal themselves through time. Lorenzo Accomasso’s Rocchette 2005 belongs to the latter: a Nebbiolo from La Morra shaped by a traditional philosophy built on long macerations, slow maturation and genuinely small-scale production.

    A Barolo built around time

Lorenzo Accomasso is a historic figure in La Morra. His family estate farms just over three hectares around the house and cellar, with a special attachment to the Rocchette vineyard. The Rocche and Rocchette Barolos rest for a long time and are bottled only when the producer considers them ready; cellar practice is based on macerations that can exceed forty days and deliberately slow evolution.

La Morra and the 2005 vintage

Accomasso is among the growers associated with the Rocche dell’Annunziata MGA, one of La Morra’s historic vineyard areas. The 2005 vintage was cool and classically styled, with Nebbiolo harvested between late September and early October. The vintage shows red fruit, spice, blood orange and a savoury note, supported by freshness, persistent tannin and depth.

    Why we recommend it

This is a fine wine for collectors and drinkers looking for a traditional reading of Barolo and a bottle with a strong sense of place. The tiny scale of the estate, the scarcity of mature vintages and Accomasso’s patient method add to its collecting interest. With a 2005 bottle, provenance and storage history remain crucial when assessing its present condition.

    Pairing and service

Nebbiolo’s structure and the wine’s bottle age make it a natural partner for braised meats, game, roasts and mature cheeses. For a mature bottle, keeping it upright before opening and deciding whether to decant according to sediment and the wine’s actual condition is advisable.
