Fine WineThe Barolo DOCG Sperss 2018 by Gaja embodies the power and refinement of Nebbiolo, one of the noblest varieties from Piedmont. Produced by the renowned Gaja estate, this Barolo is made from grapes grown in the Serralunga d'Alba vineyards, one of the most suitable areas for Barolo production. The name "Sperss" means "nostalgia" in Piedmontese, evoking the deep connection of the Gaja family with these lands, which they resumed cultivating in the 1980s. The 2018 vintage was characterized by favorable weather, with a rainy spring and a warm but not excessive summer, allowing for perfect grape ripening. Vinification occurs in temperature-controlled steel tanks, followed by a long aging in oak barrels, which contributes to the complexity and elegance of this Barolo.
The Barolo Sperss 2018 presents an intense and brilliant garnet red color. On the nose, it offers a rich and complex bouquet with aromas of ripe red fruits such as cherry and blackberry, accompanied by notes of sweet spices, tobacco, and a slight hint of mint. On the palate, it is a wine of great structure and depth, with robust but well-integrated tannins that give a sensation of fullness and roundness. The finish is long and persistent, with a aftertaste of licorice and dark chocolate, leaving a pleasant sense of warmth. The Barolo Sperss 2018 is a wine of great class, ideal for pairing with red meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses, and promises excellent aging potential in the cellar.
