Amarone Classico di Zenato was produced from 80% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, and 10% Oseleta and Croatina grapes grown on the Costalunga estate in Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, in the province of Verona. After manual harvest, the carefully selected grapes were arranged in crates for the 3-4 months drying process in the drying room, which helps increase the sugar concentration of the fruits. Subsequently, the dried grapes were pressed, and the resulting must was allowed to macerate with the skins for 15-20 days at a temperature of 23-25°C. Before bottling, Zenato's 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico matured for 36 months in oak barrels.
Zenato's Amarone presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it offers enveloping scents of cherry, black cherry, and red fruit under spirits, blending with hints of potpourri, rhubarb, and dark spices combined with balsamic and toasted tobacco notes. The palate is sumptuous and velvety, enhanced by smooth tannins and an elegant minerality that lingers in the long finish. It pairs well with mature cheeses and rich land-based dishes of red meats or game. Also excellent as a meditation wine.
