The Bushmills 16 Years Old is an Irish Whiskey created from a blend of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks aged for at least 16 years and married for 9 months in Port pipes before being bottled at 40% vol. This aging process makes this Irish Whiskey smooth, intense, and very pleasant.

Tasting Notes

Visually, Bushmills appears amber in color with caramel reflections. On the nose, the aroma is sweet, with notes of caramel, raisins, honey, vanilla, and citrus with hints of cloves. On the palate, you can taste fruit like apple and pear, raisins, and cherries with honey and a touch of soft candy with hints of oak wood, orange peel, and dried fruit. The finish is medium in persistence, sweet, with a stable presence of caramel, malt, oak wood, vanilla, and a hint of smoke.

Distillery

Bushmills is located in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and is said to be the oldest distillery to have obtained a license for whiskey production way back in 1608. But the true history of Bushmills is said to begin in 1784 when the distillery was built at its current location. In over two hundred years of history, it has had its ups and downs, such as in 1885 when part of the distillery was destroyed by a fire or when the distillery won the "only gold medal for whiskey" during the 1889 Paris Universal Exhibition.
