Walter Massa is the one who first and most viscerally believed in Timorasso and changed its fortunes, just as he changed those of the Colli Tortonesi, physically and oenologically set between Oltrepò Pavese and Monferrato. Vigneti Massa is the name of the family-run winery, founded in 1879, which today spreads over 23 hectares along the hills of Monleale, at an altitude of around 300 metres. The most typical vines of the area are grown here: Barbera, Croatina, Freisa, but above all Timorasso, to which a good 10 hectares are dedicated. In the vineyard, intervention is reduced to a minimum, and in the cellar the same is done, with spontaneous fermentation and long ageing on the fine lees, always and only in steel.
TIMORASSO DERTHONA VIGNETI MASSA: THE TASTING
The Timorasso Derthona of Vigneti Massa intrigues right from the visual approach: the colour is an 'antique' straw yellow with golden flashes and a certain consistency. The nose is invested with smoky mineral notes, aromatic herbs, mentholated balsams, white flowers and dandelion honey. In the mouth is salt and textural richness, citrus freshness and herbal allugo. An unclassifiable wine, a white with the temperament and backbone of a red, at the table it goes wherever you want: from ricotta and chive ravioli with butter, to tonnarello with bottarga, to chicken with herbs.
