Made entirely from Sangiovese grapes sourced from old high-altitude vines on the hills around Florence and Fiesole, this wine reflects the artistic and personal vision of its creator. The name “Testamatta” – meaning “crazy head” in Italian – captures Graetz’s unconventional and visionary approach. An artist before becoming a winemaker, he transformed small vineyard plots into true crus. Fermentation is spontaneous, with native yeasts, followed by approximately 20 months of aging in barriques, with the goal of enhancing the purity of the fruit and the expressive depth of Sangiovese. Bright, deep ruby red in colour. The bouquet is broad and refined, with aromas of ripe red fruits, cherry, raspberry, and redcurrant, enriched by floral hints of violet, aromatic herbs, sweet spices, and a touch of minerality. On the palate, it is vibrant and focused, with silky tannins, lively acidity, and excellent balance. The finish is long, elegant, and mineral-driven, with lasting notes of fruit.
