Frescobaldi's Spumante Pomino Leonia Brut Millesimato is born from Chardonnay and a small percentage of Pinot Nero grapes. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a temperature of 16° C and for a part (15-20%) in new and first passage French oak barriques. In the March following the harvest, the refermentation in the bottle is started with the introduction of selected sugars and yeasts (drafting process). Subsequently the wine is aged on the lees for thirty months. Lamberto Frescobaldi wanted to dedicate this Spumante Pomino DOC Leonia Brut to his great-great-grandmother Leonia who first decided to plant French grapes on the Castello di Pomino estate, making wine in the first Italian gravity winery for which she received the gold medal at the Paris Expo of 1878.
Frescobaldi's Spumante Pomino DOC Leonia Brut Millesimato shines to the eye with a straw yellow colour with golden reflections and is embellished by a fine perlage. Hints of ripe apricot, bread crust and yellow citrus fruits define an olfactory picture of extreme elegance. Soft and enveloping, on the palate, it expresses a delicate minerality and vibrant freshness that persists in the long finish played on notes of Mediterranean herbs. Excellent as an aperitif, it goes well with fresh cheeses and vegetarian dishes, as well as with tasty seafood recipes.
