Corpo robustoSanct Valentin Pinot Grigio 2024 is an unusually structured interpretation of the variety from Alto Adige. St. Michael-Eppan introduced the label in 1986, selecting premium vineyard parcels, vinifying Pinot Grigio on its own and introducing maturation in small oak vessels. The result combines breadth and layered flavours with the acidity that keeps the wine lively and rewarding at the table.
The wine is made from 100% Pinot Grigio grown in the Oltradige area at 420–600 metres above sea level. Vineyards face southeast and southwest on gravelly limestone soils; the 15–32-year-old vines are trained using the Guyot system. Grapes are harvested and selected by hand from mid to late September. The winery reports a yield of approximately 45 hl/ha.
Winemaking includes alcoholic and malolactic fermentation followed by maturation on the lees in barriques and tonneaux. The separate lots are blended after almost one year and undergo at least another eight months in concrete vessels. This approach brings a creamy texture and nuanced toasted character while retaining a clear fruit signature.
The wine displays a deep straw-yellow colour. Aromas of apple, pear, subtle vanilla, toasted white bread and hazelnut lead to a full-bodied, creamy palate with appealing acidity, gentle smoky nuances and a lingering finish. For 2024, the producer specifies 14% ABV and 5.40 g/l total acidity.
Serve at 10–12°C with fish, shellfish, white meats, selected red-meat dishes or risotto with herb pesto. The producer indicates cellaring potential of ten years or more under suitable conditions. The 2024 vintage received 94 Falstaff points and 92 James Suckling points. 750 ml bottle; contains sulphites.
