Corpo medioSiccagno is Arianna Occhipinti's Nero d'Avola, a wine that she particularly loves and that accompanies her from the very first steps in the vineyards. The name refers to the concentrated grape which in Sicilian is called Siccagna. Arianna's company, born in Fossa di Lupo, a district on the edge of which the ancient state road SP68 runs, has extended over the years to the Bombolieri, Bastonaca and Pettineo districts. Nero d'Avola Siccagno comes from 35-year-old vineyards at almost 300 metres above sea level on medium-consistency soils deriving from calcareous sands; the plants do not undergo any chemical treatment and are healthy and ready to be harvested in the first ten days of October. Fermentation takes place strictly with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats and maceration lasts for 25 days; the wine then ages in 25 hl Slavonian oak barrels for 22 months and for another 2 in the bottle, without ever undergoing any filtration.
Nero d'Avola Siccagno by Arianna Occhipinti has a ruby mantle. The nose is an intertwining of fruit, flower and territory: blackberry, wild strawberry jam, lavender, balsamic and mentholated traces, black pepper, salted caper and light tobacco. In the mouth, it is savoury and fresh, elegant and wild at the same time, with well-defined tannins and length on the balms. Very good with rigatoni with Nebrodi black pork ragout and wild herbs.
