Cerretta is a historic Langhe cru, and the parcel planted to Barbera covers around one hectare with a predominantly western exposure. Roberto Conterno interprets the variety in a rigorously traditional style, focusing on depth, energy and ageing potential.
The wine is made from 100% Barbera. Fermentation lasts about two weeks in wooden vats with regular cap management, followed by approximately two years in large casks. This approach reflects the house style, using traditional vessels that allow the vineyard character to remain central without adding overt oak aromas.
The 2023 combines richness with energy, showing red cherry and plum, blood orange, pomegranate and floral nuances. The palate is broad and juicy, driven by Barbera's natural freshness and a long, resonant finish. Antonio Galloni for Vinous awarded it 94/100, while James Suckling rated the vintage 96/100. It pairs well with roasts, braised meats, substantial pasta dishes, red meats and aged cheeses. Recommended serving temperature: 16-18 °C.
