Fine WineEtna Bianco Superiore Pietra Marina di Benanti showcases Giuseppe Benanti's ambition to demonstrate the potential of Carricante. This wine comes from a vineyard in Contrada Rinazzo on the east side of Mount Etna. Located at an altitude of 800m, on sandy volcanic soil that is rich in minerals, this area is particularly well-suited for growing this varietal due to its altitude, abundant sunlight, exposure to the sea, and good ventilation. The vines, some up to 90 years old, are grown in the traditional ""alberello"" method, leaning against a chestnut pole, on small terraces with dry stone walls. The grapes are harvested by hand after mid-October; the grape bunches are pressed whole, using a soft pressing technique. Fermentation takes place for about 12 days at a controlled temperature in steel tanks, with yeasts that are chosen in-house. The wine matures in steel tanks on its own noble lees for about 24 months, then in bottle for another 12 months.
Etna Bianco Superiore Pietra Marina di Benanti has a bright straw yellow color. Intense and rich on the nose, it has hints of citrus, orange blossom, peach, white plum, wild fennel, and white pepper, all wrapped in a fine mineral aura. On the palate it is full, salty, and long on fruity and aromatic herbs. Delicious with spaghetti chitarra with sea urchins.
