Corpo robustoThe Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli di Mazzei was born in 1995, anticipating the concept of the Gran Selezione, introduced in 2014 for wines released from that moment on. Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the territories of 3 neighbouring municipalities of the Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. The 2008 is the result of the assembly of 50 wines from the best plots. The grapes, 85% Sangiovese of 36 different biotypes and 15% between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, were vinified separately without the use of pumps, therefore without receiving any shock, they fermented at a controlled temperature, then the wine matured 16 months in small French oak barrels of 225 (60% new), to remain in the bottle for a long time.
The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli of the Marchesi Mazzei is intense ruby red with a garnet edge. The aromatic range is made up of cherries in alcohol, tamarind, dried violet and rose, dried bay leaf and thyme, cinnamon, black pepper and vanilla. The mouth is spicy and concentrated, at the same time elegant. Excellent with baked stuffed quail.
