The Canaiolo di Malenchini is born in a context that defining as fascinating is an understatement: in the heart of the denomination, 10 kilometers from Florence, the organic agricultural company Malenchini extends around the Medici Villa of Lilliano. The 70 hectares include 18 planted with vineyards for a long time, with native and international grape varieties, and 42 with olive groves, featuring different traditional cultivars. The ancient cellars and the oil jar date back to 1830. Leading the company for more than twenty years is Diletta Malenchini, representing the eighth generation, always strongly tied to the territory and its history. The Canaiolo di MalenchiniCanaiolo is a local grape variety always used for the blend with Sangiovese in Chianti, but lately also valued in purity for its incredible territoriality. The vineyards are located in the Antella area, between 200 and 300 meters above sea level, on medium-textured, loamy-clay soils. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks, with a short maceration to avoid excessive polyphenolic extractions. A brief aging in steel before being marketed.
The Canaiolo di Malenchini is a bright and lively ruby red, with violet reflections. On the nose, it smells of raspberry syrup, wild strawberries, violet, thyme, and nepitella, with very subtle hints of pepper and sweet spices. In the mouth, it is slightly savory, with gentle tannins and floral freshness. A fantastic wine for a snack and perfect for a sandwich, strictly with Tuscan bread, pecorino cheese, and finocchiona.
