Aroma fruttatoFirst created in 1928, Villa Antinori Rosso reflects the history of a Tuscan winemaking family while continuing to evolve with each vintage. The 2024 Toscana IGT brings together the character of Sangiovese and the contribution of international grape varieties, balancing ripe fruit with freshness and polished tannins. This 375 ml half-bottle is particularly useful when a full-sized bottle would be more than the occasion calls for.
Niccolò Antinori chose the Villa Antinori name in tribute to the family estate and its Tuscan roots. The label depicts Villa del Cigliano in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, a place closely associated with the Antinori family for centuries. Under the Toscana IGT designation, Sangiovese is complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah to create a red with a distinctive Tuscan identity.
The growing year moved from a mild, rainy winter to a largely warm and dry summer. Rainfall in late August helped the grapes complete ripening. Harvest began with Merlot in early September, continued with Sangiovese and ended with Cabernet in October. Following gentle crushing, alcoholic fermentation took place under temperature control for about a week, with a further ten days of skin contact. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matured in French and Hungarian oak barriques.
Ruby red in the glass, it opens with black cherry and blood orange, followed by delicate green pepper and boxwood, toasted oak and tobacco. The palate is soft and rounded, supported by lively freshness, supple tannins and a lingering finish. Serve alongside pasta with ragù, roast meats, beef dishes and hearty Tuscan recipes. The half-bottle format offers a practical way to enjoy the 2024 vintage over a smaller meal.
