Located at approximately 151 metres above sea level, the vineyard lies on deep, fertile brown clay soil rich in gravel, capable of retaining moisture and supporting steady ripening even during dry periods. The result is an elegant interpretation of classic Valpolicella, defined by freshness, aromatic precision and finesse.
After gentle crushing, fermentation is carried out with dry ice to preserve and enhance the grapes’ distinctive spicy aromas. The wine matures for a total of 36 months in the cellar, including ten months in 25-hectolitre Stockinger oak casks. Aromas of raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant are complemented by violet, lavender, sage, thyme, tea leaves and white pepper. The palate is focused and energetic, combining lively freshness, measured tannins and a refined spicy character with a precise, persistent finish.
The name 44 Verticale refers to the vineyard plot where the varieties used in the wine come together, while “Verticale” describes its aromatic purity and vibrant progression across the palate. The number 44 also coincides with the year of birth of Alfredo Buglioni, who founded the winery together with his son Mariano. A remarkably versatile food wine, it pairs with white meats, game birds, cod, salmon, spicy fish soups, mushroom or truffle risotto and pasta. It also works beautifully with umami-rich Asian cuisine and aromatic or mildly spicy dishes. Serve at approximately 14 °C.
