The estate's official vintage archive lists 1987 among the wines released as Brunello di Montalcino Soldera DOCG, making this bottle a rare document of the original Case Basse era.
The Case Basse estate lies in the south-western area of Montalcino at around 320 metres above sea level. Soldera wines are produced exclusively from Sangiovese grown in the estate's own vineyards, with meticulous manual selection. The cellar philosophy relies on spontaneous fermentation with native microorganisms and ageing in large Slavonian oak casks, without barriques, clarification or filtration.
Vinous rated Soldera's 1987 Brunello di Montalcino 96/100 in a retrospective tasting, describing an expressive, refined wine with crushed flowers, red cherry, raspberry and tobacco notes. A separate Vinous tasting awarded it 94/100, further confirming the vintage's remarkable longevity. For a bottle from 1987, provenance, fill level, capsule integrity and storage history are crucial to the final drinking experience. The reported alcohol level for this vintage is 13% abv.
