Aroma fruttato
Corpo robustoThe Umbria Rosso from Il Gheppio winery is made from 100% Sagrantino, which is grown in the municipality of Montefalco. The name of the company testifies to the inseparable link with the territory of Montefalco: the kestrel (Falco Tinnunculus) is the typical hunting falcon used since the Middle Ages and, in honour of this bird of prey, Frederick II of Swabia gave its name to the city of Montefalco (formerly Coccorone). The harvest takes place in mid-October; the grapes ferment and remain in contact with the skins for about 20 days, carry out the malolactic fermentation in steel and, after clearing by natural sedimentation, the wine ages in oak barrels, then in the bottle.
The Sagrantino di Montefalco from the Il Gheppio winery sports a bright ruby hue that fades to the garnet edge. On the nose, it is impressive: flavours of cherry, bitter orange, currant, watermelon, Sichuan pepper, mace, violets, tobacco and humus. In the mouth, it is warm, with impeccable tannins and a long and tasty finish. Excellent with stewed wild boar.
