Corpo robustoThe Ziggurat Montefalco Rosso di Tenuta Castelbuono comes from a blend of Sangiovese (70%), Sagrantino (15%), Cabernet, and Merlot (15%) grown in the company vineyards located in Bevagna and Montefalco (PG) on clay-loam soils. The harvest was done by hand in September with a wine yield of 55 hectoliters per hectare. The red vinification included a cold pre-maceration phase of 20 hours at 12°C. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel at a maximum temperature of 26-28°C, with the must maceration on the skins lasting 15-20 days. Aging was for 12 months in 225-liter barriques and 500-liter tonneaux, plus a further 6 months in the bottle.
The Ziggurat Montefalco Rosso di Tenuta Castelbuono presents itself with an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it opens with scents of sour cherry and small red berries meeting balsamic herbs, cloves, and dark spice notes. The palate is enveloping and balanced, supported by a smooth tannic structure and an elegant fruity and spicy taste that lingers in the finish. Perfect on the table with earthy first and second courses prepared with red meats or game.
