Langhe Nebbiolo DOC Costa Russi 2006 – Gaja comes from one of the most celebrated vineyards in the Barbaresco area, acquired by the Gaja family in 1967. Its name combines the Piedmontese word “costa”, referring to the sun-facing side of a hill, with “Russi”, the nickname of the vineyard’s former owner. The 2006 vintage was produced predominantly from Nebbiolo with a small proportion of Barbera, following the style used by the estate while Costa Russi was released under the Langhe Nebbiolo DOC designation.

In the glass, it reveals an elegant, profound and gradually unfolding personality. Aromas of dark cherry, blackberry and ripe woodland fruit are complemented by violet, spice, graphite, subtle smoky notes and mineral nuances. The palate combines concentration with precision, supported by fine tannins, lively freshness and a supple texture leading to a long, harmonious and persistent finish. Bottle ageing may introduce further notes of forest floor, leather, tobacco and truffle, characteristic of mature fine wines from Piedmont.

Costa Russi 2006 is particularly suited to contemplative tasting and important occasions. It pairs beautifully with braised beef, roast meats, game, lamb, beef fillet, pasta with rich meat sauces, mushroom risotto, truffle dishes and mature cheeses. Serve at approximately 16-18 °C. The bottle should preferably be stood upright before opening, while decanting should be assessed carefully, as the condition and aromatic development of a mature wine may vary according to its storage history and the individual bottle.
