Corpo medioFor Fèlsina, Berardenga is more than a place name. It expresses the estate's approach to Sangiovese in the south-eastern sector of Chianti Classico, where a distinctive landscape shapes the wine. The 2023 vintage offers a balanced combination of fruit, measured structure and a clear sense of origin.
This Chianti Classico DOCG is made entirely from Sangiovese grapes grown in the estate's vineyards north-east of Siena. The vines occupy breezy, predominantly south-west-facing slopes at an altitude of 320 to 420 metres. Quartz-rich sandstone, limestone-rich alberese, alluvial pebbles and loam contribute to a varied growing environment that Fèlsina interprets through its focus on the local grape variety.
After destemming, the grapes ferment in stainless-steel tanks with approximately 12–15 days of skin contact, regular pump-overs and punch-downs. The wine then spends 12 months in Slavonian oak casks, with a small proportion aged in second- and third-use barriques, followed by at least three months in bottle. This measured oak maturation supports the character of Sangiovese rather than overpowering it.
The estate describes a ruby-red wine with elegant wild-berry and spice aromas, expressive fruit, well-defined tannins and a lasting finish. It works particularly well with roast meats, pasta with meat sauces, grilled red meat and mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C.
Falstaff awarded the 2023 Berardenga 90/100 in its 2025 tasting. This vintage-specific assessment makes it an appealing choice for discovering Fèlsina's interpretation of Sangiovese and the character of this corner of Chianti Classico.
