Corpo robustoThis 1.5-litre Magnum of Bertani Amarone Classico 2016 brings together an acclaimed vintage, a patient winemaking tradition and a wooden presentation case. Holding the equivalent of two standard 750 ml bottles, it is a distinctive choice for a celebratory table or a carefully assembled cellar. The wine itself exemplifies Bertani's long-established preference for balance and elegance over sheer power.
Bertani was founded in 1857. The grapes for its classic Amarone are grown at Tenuta Novare, in Arbizzano di Negrar near Verona. The vineyards stand on limestone and basalt soils, are trained using double Guyot and have an average vine age of around 20 years. The blend is 80% Corvina Veronese and 20% Rondinella, a restrained choice of varieties that gives the wine its distinctive fragrance, texture and freshness.
Selected bunches are dried in traditional lofts on racks for approximately 120 days, without artificially controlling temperature or humidity. Fermentation follows the estate's slow, traditional approach in concrete vats. The wine is then aged for about seven years in large Slavonian oak casks, typically around 60 hectolitres, followed by at least one year in bottle. This exceptionally patient maturation builds complexity while allowing the fruit and acidity to remain clearly defined.
The colour is deep ruby with garnet hints. Aromas of plum, cherry, morello cherry, tea leaf, liquorice and spice unfold alongside dried-fruit, tobacco and cocoa nuances. The palate is rich and layered but never ponderous, supported by fresh acidity, integrated tannins and a persistent finish. Depth and restraint are held in careful balance.
The 1.5-litre Magnum makes a striking addition to a special dinner, a gift selection or a personal wine collection. The wooden case is included with this specific edition. For the 2016 vintage, critics awarded 97/100 from James Suckling, 96/100 from Wine Enthusiast and 94/100 from Vinous.
Serve at 16–18°C in generous wine glasses, with braised beef, roast meats, game, rich meat ragù and mature cheeses. Opening the bottle ahead of service can help its aromas unfold. Magnum 1.5 l; 15% ABV according to the producer; contains sulphites.
