Fine WineGiacomo Conterno Monfortino 2020 is offered here in a 3-litre Double Magnum, a format that strengthens its collectible appeal while preserving the wine's identity: a 100% Nebbiolo Barolo Riserva DOCG selected mainly from Francia, with a 15% component from Arione.
The method remains the one that has defined this wine over time: fermentation and extended maceration in wooden vats without temperature control, followed by around seven years in large casks. The 3-litre format makes it particularly compelling for an important cellar or a major occasion.
The 2020 shows a more open and seductive profile than the firmer 2019, with red fruit, blood orange, rose, lavender, sage and mint, polished tannins, bright acidity and a long savoury finish. James Suckling awarded it 99/100, while Vinous rated the vintage 98/100.
Monfortino is produced only in vintages considered worthy and sits among the most collectible expressions of Barolo. The 2020 release is scheduled for autumn 2026. Serve at around 16-18 °C with braised meats, game, red meats and mature cheeses.
