Perricone di Fina is one of the wines of those traditional vines for which Bruno Fina continues the frantic search for old clones, in the investigation of their ancient and "original" character. Perricone is a native of western Sicily. At the end of the nineteenth century it was the most cultivated vine in the provinces of Palermo and Trapani; according to some, its synonym "Pignatello" derives from the "pignatidare", the red aluminous lands of the Trapani area, which in turn took its name from its use in the manufacture of terracotta cooking pots. This type of soil is particularly suitable and here the Perricone was initially used for the production of Marsala Ruby. The Fina vineyards are cultivated with a medium planting density around 250 metres above sea level. The harvest takes place at the end of September; the fermentation is carried out in steel, as well as the refinement, which is then completed by 6 months in the bottle.
Perricone di Fina has a beautiful intense ruby red colour; the nose is dark and territorial, with notes of juniper, black pepper, morello cherry, plums in syrup, cloves, dried sage. On the palate, a vigorous salty tannic texture, flavour and a nice length are evident. Perfect with roast Nebrodi Black Island pig.
